Herman's Hermits
비틀즈의 아류로 평가 받기도 하는 "Herman's Hermits는 그들의 첫 싱글인 "I'm into something good"을 발표한 직후인 1965년에 미국 순회공연을 하면서 부터 인기를 얻기 시작했다 할수 있다. 1968년을 통하여 그들은 기발한 노래와 커버송, 십대 취향의 노래들을 힛트 시켜 정작 모국인 영국에서보다 미국에서 더 큰 인기를 끌다가 1971년 해체후 다시 결성되는 과정을 거친다. 반면, 리드 보컬리스트인 Peter Noone은 1980년에 뉴웨이브 스타일의 그룹 "Tremblers"를 따로 조직한다. 다시 말해 Herman's Hermits는 60년대 중반을 통하여 록 뮤직의 본토인 미국으로 물밀듯이 상륙한 소위 "영국의 침략자"들의 일원으로 인기의 정상에 오른 그룹이었다.
1962년, Peter Noone은 "The Heartbeat"라는 그룹을 결성하여 활동하다가 제작자인 미키 모스트의 눈에 띄어 그의 주도하에 자신의 이름을 "Herman"으로 바꾸고 그룹명 또한 "Herman's Hermits"로 개명한다. 1964년, 캐롤 킹과 제리 가핀의 작품인 "I'm into something good"을 발표하면서 그들의 첫번째 힛트 넘버를 만들어 낸다. 이 당시 후일 레드 제플린의 멤버가 된 지미 페이지와 존 폴 존스가 많은 부분의 기타와 베이스 연주를 개별적으로 도왔다고 한다. 1965년, 최초의 대 힛트곡인 "Can't you hear my heartbeat"를 발표하였고, 이어서 "Silhouettes"와 민요인 "Mrs. Brown, You got a lovely daughter"를 힛트시킨다. 이 무렵의 그들은 단순하고 온화한 노래들과 피터 눈의 수려한 외모의 덕을 상당히 보면서 미국 순회 공연을 성공적으로 마칠수 있었다. 1965년의 힛트 싱글을 더 열거하면 "Wonderful world", "I'm Henry 8th, I am", "Just a little better"등이 있으며, "A must to avoid"가 선을 보였다. 이들의 힛트 행진은 1968년까지 지속되었으나, 그룹 킹크스 소속 레이 데이비스의 66년 작품 "Dandy"와 양면 힛트 싱글인 67년 작품 "There's kind of hush/No milk today"만이 이들의 공적을 높여준 음악으로 평가되었다. Herman's Hermits는 쇠퇴하는 인기에도 불구하고 1971년까지 지속되었지만 그후 허먼은 그의 본명인 Peter Noone으로 솔로 활동을 펼쳐 나가면서 사실상 해체를 하게 된다. 1973년, 외면 당하는 레코드 취입과 공연 활동을 벌이기만 하는 Peter Noone을 제외하고, 오리지널 멤버들인 karl Greene, Derek Leckenby, Barry Whithman이 모여 재결성을 하지만 그들의 전성기는 이미 지난뒤였다. 하지만, LA를 근거지로 활동을 하던 Peter Noone은 그룹 Tremblers의 보컬리스트겸 리듬 기타리스트로 1980년엔 결국 인기 선상에 떠오르게 된다. 이 그룹 "Tremblers"의 데뷔 엘범은 Beach Boys의 동료인 탐 존스톤이 설립한 존스톤 레코드사의 발매 제 1호 작품으로 장식된다.
